May 10, 2021: At the age of 22, Sathya has already been suffering from SLE for almost 10 years. After dropping out from school in class VIII, she worked as a sales girl in a shop, before her illness forced her to leave her job. Her parents, who are street vendors, grapple with the treatment cost of not only Sathya but also her younger sister who too is an SLE patient. The monthly cost of medicines for Sathya alone is ~ Rs. 4,000. An effort is being made to train Sathya as a tailor and to procure a sewing machine for her.
