May 10, 2021: There was only a small window of opportunity to begin saving Monish Raj’s life. The 10-year-old boy is a severe aplastic anaemia patient. This beginning was through a Rs. 200,000 donation towards the Rs. 2,000,000 required for immunosuppressive treatment (IST), one of only two options available for Monish to find his way back to some semblance of a normal life. With a plumber father and a housewife mother, it is impossible for Monish to live for even a few months without continued external support.
Monish Raj is doing well at present. He is currently on oral medication. Patients who have undergone IST have a 65 to 70% chance of survival, showing a response after a couple of months of the treatment. He will be on follow-up and oral medications for another two or three months.
Apr 29, 2022: Monish now has high risk metastatic neuroblastoma. He underwent an autologous transplant surgery, five cycles of chemotherapy, laparotomy and excision of adrenal tumors.
